Vadnay Cotton

A native of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Vadnay B. Cotton entered Howard University in 1972,
majoring in Psychology with a minor in Sports Management. Demonstrating both academic
excellence and determination, he completed his degree in just three and a half years, graduating
with the Class of 1976.

During his time at Howard, Cotton distinguished himself as one of the premier basketball players
in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). A standout forward and team captain, he led
the Howard University Bison men's basketball team during the 1974, 1975, and 1976 seasons.
His exceptional play earned him First Team All-MEAC Tournament honors in 1974, 1975, and
1976, as well as First Team All-MEAC Conference recognition during his sophomore, junior,
and senior seasons.

Cotton dominated the conference on both ends of the court, leading the MEAC in rebounding
during his sophomore and junior years. He also finished as Howard's leading scorer and
rebounder throughout his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons, establishing himself as one of
the most accomplished student-athletes in the program's history.

Following graduation, Cotton began his professional career with First Citizens Bank in
Greensboro, North Carolina, where he worked from 1976 to 1980. He later joined the United
States Postal Service before answering the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United
States Army in 1982. As a paratrooper with the prestigious 82nd Airborne Division at Fort
Bragg, North Carolina, he enjoyed a successful and distinguished military career built on
discipline, leadership, and commitment.

After completing his military service, Cotton founded Cotton Light Construction and expanded
his entrepreneurial pursuits into real estate investment and property management. As a business
owner and leader, he has overseen financial planning, budget development, contract negotiations,
business development, and organizational management while maintaining an unwavering
commitment to quality and excellence. His hands-on leadership style has been instrumental in
the continued success and growth of his companies.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Cotton remains deeply committed to serving his
community through civic engagement, mentorship, and leadership. His lifelong dedication to
excellence in athletics, military service, business, and community involvement exemplifies the
values of integrity, perseverance, and service that make him a truly deserving Hall of Fame
honoree.
