Tracey Chambers

Tracey is a distinguished swimmer whose accomplishments in the pool helped break barriers and challenge long-held racial stereotypes in competitive swimming. She learned to swim at the historic Nile Swim Club, founded by Philadelphia's African American community after Black families were denied access to segregated swim clubs. Tracey learned about competitive swimming at Philadelphia's public pools and later joined the TigerSharks, a respected inner-city swim team, where she excelled in the butterfly.

As one of the first group of women to earn a swimming scholarship to Howard University, Tracey set pool records in the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly, 100 and 200-yard individual medley, and was a member of record-setting freestyle and medley relay teams. She was also named Most Outstanding Female Swimmer at the Black National Swimming and Diving Championships. Tracey participated in various campus activities and was initiated in Alpha Chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Her induction into the Athletic Hall of Fame celebrates not only her exceptional athletic achievements but also her lasting impact as a role model whose courage, determination, and excellence in the pool opened doors for those who followed.

Today, Tracey is an educator who resides in Maryland and is a proud wife, mother, and grandmother.
