INDUCTION: 2026
SPORT(S): BASEBALL/SUPPORTER
I started coaching baseball at Howard in 1973 as an assistant coach to Howard HOF coach, Chuck Hinton. It was coach Hinton's second year as head coach. I coached with Chuck for 12 years. We sent two players to the major leagues. In 1978, I became a full-time employee at Howard. I worked in Residence Life and was the director at Drew Hall for my first 17 years.
I was on the broadcast team that announced Howard football and basketball games on WHUR-FM, alongside my brother, Howard Hall of Fame baseball player, Glenn Harris. I did that for 12 years. More recently, I started the internet broadcasts of Howard sports. We covered football, basketball, softball, bowling and track and field. Internet coverage of football is still going on today. Under the Dwight Datcher athletic administration, I brought sponsors in for football and basketball including signage throughout the venues. Howard had never had sponsorship signage within our stadiums. Revenue went directly to athletics. I brought in-game contests with fans winning prizes for each home game in football and basketball. I officially retired from Howard in 2006.
