Norma McGraw

Norma McGraw was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she attended Broward County Public Schools. During middle and high school, she competed in track, basketball, and volleyball. It was during high school that she developed a passion for volleyball, honing the skills and techniques that would eventually earn her a scholarship to Howard University.

At Howard University, McGraw became a standout volleyball player, earning numerous honors and recognition for her athletic performance and leadership. Among her accomplishments, she was named MEAC Tournament MVP and earned Howard University MVP honors for two consecutive years. In May 1985, she graduated from Howard University with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and a minor in Psychology.

Following graduation, McGraw returned to Fort Lauderdale, where she married Bruce R. McGraw and began her career with the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO). While working full time, she continued her education and earned a Master’s degree in Organizational Management in 2009.

​

McGraw’s career with BSO spans 37 years, with experience in Communications, Corrections, Inmate Programming, and her current role as Grants Division Manager. Her commitment to volleyball has also continued beyond her collegiate career. For 25 years, she officiated volleyball for the Broward County Public Schools and has served as the volleyball booking commissioner for the past seven years.

McGraw and her husband, Bruce, have two daughters, Brittany and Lauren, and a granddaughter, Brielle, with another granddaughter expected in November. She is also an active financial member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and serves as Parliamentarian for the Delta Education Life Development Foundation.

From her accomplishments on the volleyball court at Howard University to her decades of professional and community service, McGraw’s journey reflects a lasting commitment to leadership, service, and excellence.
