Kyle Williams

 

Kyle Williams grew up in Burlington, New Jersey, where countless hours at 6th Street Park transformed basketball from a simple pastime into his first true teacher. With a vivid imagination and an imaginary teammate named Jacket, he spent early mornings challenging Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls on an empty court, repeating moves until they were flawless. Those moments of creativity, discipline, and determination shaped the athlete and, ultimately, the man he would become.

Williams began his collegiate career at the University of Colorado, but multiple knee surgeries altered his trajectory. Transferring to Howard University became one of the most meaningful decisions of his life. At The Mecca, he gained a broader worldview, built lifelong relationships with people from across the country and around the world, and developed a deep appreciation for the HBCU experience and Howard’s enduring legacy. After graduating, he went on to enjoy a six‑year professional basketball career in Europe.

Today, Williams serves as a sixth‑grade science and social studies teacher in the same school district that helped shape him. He remains deeply committed to mentoring young people, coaching, raising his four children, and serving his community as a proud member of ΩΨΦ, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated.

Following the loss of his wife, Charisse, to breast cancer in 2025, this honor carries profound significance. It reconnects him to a simpler time and strengthens his resolve to use the lessons and relationships Howard gave him to uplift and inspire the next generation. Kyle is deeply honored and forever grateful.
