Kyle Williams

Growing up in Burlington, New Jersey, I spent countless hours at 6th Street Park, where basketball became much more than a game—it became my first teacher. With a vivid imagination and an imaginary teammate named Jacket, I challenged Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls every morning on an empty court, repeating moves until they were perfect. Those hours of imagination, discipline, and determination shaped the player—and eventually the man—I would become.

After high school, I began my collegiate career at the University of Colorado before multiple knee surgeries changed my path. Transferring to Howard University proved to be one of the greatest decisions of my life. Howard broadened my perspective, surrounded me with people from across the country and around the world, and instilled in me a deep appreciation for the HBCU experience and the enduring legacy of The Mecca. Following graduation, I enjoyed a six-year professional basketball career in Europe.

Today, I am proud to serve as a sixth-grade science and social studies teacher in the same school district that helped shape me. I remain committed to mentoring young people, coaching, raising my four children, and serving my community as a member of ΩΨΦ, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated.

After losing my wife, Charisse, to breast cancer in 2025, this honor carries even greater meaning. It reminds me of a simpler time and reinforces my commitment to use the lessons and relationships Howard gave me to inspire and uplift the next generation. I am deeply honored and forever grateful.
