Donald Griggs
INDUCTION: 2026
SPORT(S): FOOTBALL
"Donald Griggs has been a part of the Howard University athletics for over five decades.
Griggs' association began in 1975 as a 10-year-old ball boy. From there, Griggs, a native of Washington, DC, elevated his status to one of the first team mangers for Howard football. With some help from some of the powerful mentors, Griggs soon moved up the ladder as equipment assistant manager. He would become team videographer, from 1988-2004 and from 2009-14
The tireless and ambitious Griggs earned the title of assistant to the head coach (1988-2008 and 2009-10) and was responsible for coordination of activities for the players and as a mentor to many of the football student athletes, who would go on to have outstanding careers, both in and out of the sport.
No one in the history of Howard football can lay claim that they worked under eight different head football coaches:
Doug Porter, Floyd Keith, Joe Taylor, Willie Jeffries, Steve Wilson, Rayford T. Petty, Carey Bailey and Gary ""Flea"" Harrell.
Numerous players who benefitted from Griggs' contributions and mentoring are being inducted into this Hall of Fame.
And last, but certainly, not least, we would be remiss if we did not acknowledge that Griggs has been a huge asset to HU athletics as a staff member if the Bursar's Office."
