Hall of Fame Nomination Criteria

ALL nominators and ALL nominees MUST be members of BISON EXPRESS. GO TO bisonexpress.org and click the red "Support Bison Express" tab to pay membership dues online at the secure site. GIVE $100 to the BISON EXPRESS ANNUAL FUND for Bison Express membership.

Student-Athlete nominees are eligible if they have completed their final collegiate athletic competition at least 10 years ago (prior to 2016), be of good character and exemplify the high standards of citizenship expected of the Howard University community, and have achieved recognition as a:

• Record Holder of one or more school and /or conference records

• Recipient of the conference, regional and/or national honors

• Participant in world-class amateur competition and/or

• Team leader

 

Team nominees are eligible if they have completed their final collegiate athletic competition at least 10 years ago and meet the following criteria to be considered:

• Won a conference championship

• Received national ranking or recognition

• Had an undefeated season(s)

• Set school record(s)

• Received post-season invitation(s)

 

Coach/Athletics Administrator nominees are eligible upon retirement or death, or five years after resigning from Howard University, and will be considered if they have:

• Maintained a supportive relationship with the University and its athletics programs

• Received conference recognition or honors

• Coached teams that earned championships, conference honors, and/or team recognition

• Has throughout his/her athletic career and thereafter demonstrated sportsmanship, been regarded a person of integrity, and exemplified the high standards of citizenship expected of the Howard University community.

 

Buffalo Soldier Award nominees are eligible if they have demonstrated loyalty and support to Howard University athletics over time. This person may be an athlete or a non-athlete who does NOT meet the criteria in other categories. Special consideration should also be given to significant financial support over time.

 

MULTIPLE NOMINATIONS AS WELL AS SELF-NOMINATIONS ARE ENCOURAGED.

PLEASE NOTE: IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE NOMINATOR TO SUBMIT

DOCUMENTATION THAT SUPPORTS THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE NOMINEE. PROVIDE AS MUCH INFORMATION AS POSSIBLE. THE SELECTION COMMITTEE CAN ONLY CONSIDER WHAT HAS BEEN SUBMITTED AND CANNOT CONDUCT RESEARCH ON SUBMISSION.

Nominations are open from December 1, 2025, through March 31, 2026.

The Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be in November 2026, and the exact location, date, and time will be announced one year before the event. The event will continue to be in the DMV area.
