Chris Bullock

Christopher Bullock was born in Washington, D.C., on December 25, 1955.  A graduate of the famed Joel Elias Spingarn Senior High School in Washington, D.C., he was offered a football scholarship to play for the Howard University Bison Football Team in 1973 and graduated from Howard with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1977.  

 

Christopher continued his educational journey by enrolling in the George Washington University Graduate School of Public Administration earning a Master’s degree in Public Administration in 1994.  Christopher was considered a highly respected, promising young football coach when he led the Calvin Coolidge High School football program in Washington, D.C., during the early 1980s.  He earned strong recognition within the highly competitive Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) and District of Columbia Interscholastic Athletic Association (DCIAA) landscapes.  Key Elements of his coaching reputation were:

• Peer Respect:  His talent as a leader was quickly recognized by D.C. high school football legends.  Bob Headen, the legendary coach of the dominant H.D. Woodson Football program, publicly noted his respect for Christopher’s work ethic.  

 

• All-Star Selection:  Due to his coaching ability, Christopher was chosen to lead the West All-Stars against the East in the prestigious 15th annual D.C. All-Star Game at RFK Stadium in 1983.  After being selected as an Allstar in 1973, Christopher was the first DCIAA player to play in the Allstar Game, and come back to Coach and win an D. C. Allstar Game.  This selection was a significant honor for such a young Coach.  

 

• Player Advocacy & Philosophy:  Christopher was known for being a thoughtful, strategic thinker who focused heavily on expanding his players' horizons.  He was vocal in local media about encouraging young Black athletes to try non-traditional, highly disciplined positions -- such as place-kicking -- to diversify their skill sets and improve their long-term football opportunities.  

 

Christopher continues to be a loyal and dedicated advocate of the academic and administrative, varsity sport programs, and extracurricular endeavors of Howard University student athletes. Christopher has generously contributed funds, time, and mentoring as a member of the Bison Express Board of Directors for over ten years.
