Ashley Goins
INDUCTION: 2026
SPORT(S): WOMEN'S SWIM & DIVING
Ashley Goins is one of the most decorated divers in Howard University history, a trailblazer whose achievements helped redefine what was possible for the Bison Swimming & Diving program. A native of Silver Spring, Maryland, Goins transferred to Howard from Rutgers University and immediately made an impact, delivering a historic senior season that placed her firmly in the Howard record books.
Goins became the first Howard diver in more than 15 years to earn an athletic honor when she was named Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Women’s Diver of the Week, not once, but twice. Her recognition marked the first Diver of the Week award for any Howard athlete since the conference’s inception in 2007. She earned the honor after defeating six Loyola divers with a season‑best score of 245.62 on the 1‑meter board and another season‑best 199.73 on the 3‑meter board.
Her dominance continued throughout the season, recording 14 victories across the 1‑meter and 3‑meter events and becoming the first Howard diver ever to compete at the CCSA Championship meet, where she earned eighth‑place honors on both boards. With her championship scores, Goins set Howard University records in both the 1‑meter and 3‑meter events — records that stand as a testament to her precision, athleticism, and competitive drive.
Goins qualified for the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships, showcasing her talent on one of the sport’s biggest stages. Volunteer coach Christy Smith praised her “terrific focus and determination,” noting that Goins was unafraid to attempt new dives and executed routines with exceptional poise, even with limited practice.
Her collegiate debut was equally impressive. In her first competition as a Bison, Goins swept both diving events against American University, scoring 235.35 on the 1‑meter board and 196.77 on the 3‑meter board, winning by more than 55 points. Her performances energized the program and signaled the arrival of a new era for Howard diving.
Throughout her career, Goins expressed great pride in representing Howard University, consistently emphasizing her commitment to elevating the team and inspiring future Bison divers. Her legacy is defined not only by records and accolades, but by her leadership, determination, and the historic milestones she achieved for the program.
